MEWS is a European Eurostars project aiming to be an early snow avalanche detection system backed by the Artificial Intelligence Inference Engine developed by amplía)))’s for its OpenGate IoT platform.
I’ve managed the team who work on this exciting project. I’ve also helped with the architecture of the whole system: artificial intelligence inference engine, LoRa WAN connector, time series storing performance, and device management customizations.
LoRa sensors deployed on the field collect data on a valley in which avalanches occur every winter. Then the sensors transmit the data to a local LoRa WAN gateway which sends it to the OpenGate IoT platform LoRa WAN connector. OpenGate adapts and stores in the best way possible the received data.
A group of data scientists downloads the curated data from OpenGate to train an Artificial Intelligence model. When the model is ready, the data scientist deploys it into the Inference Engine using OpenGate’s REST API.
Charged with the AI model, OpenGate can predict snow avalanches to help people avoid risks.
